Bad news...my nikon lens is out of commission. It's been in the shop for about 10 days now waiting on a part. I just couldn't quit taking pictures for that long so I strapped on an old sigma kit lens for my film camera.
WOW...total poop is what I call that lens. It wasn't all that great when it was on a film camera, but the digital really brings out the worst in that thing. Soooo, I apologize for the lack of sharpness in the photos...it really was the lens this time.

Andrew....I really like these....the B&W one on the bottom is my favorite...such soft light...how did you do that
You should totally try this. It is a very cool technique and I learned about it from a guy who does it on landscapes. Basically I set the flowers on a vase in the middle of a totally dark room. I set the focus and set the f stop at about 11. I then used a regular flash light to "paint" the rose.
The guy who does landscapes sets the camera up, locks the mirror up, and walks around with a jumbo color balanced flash light and literally paints a photograph. you can do a similar thing by using an off camera flash. This looks really cool on dark landscapes that have a lot of texture--like a old tree.
I did do a little bit of post processing in Photoshop. I used the channel mixer to alter the levels of red, blue, and green.
dood that is freakin sweet!....I LOVE THAT IDEA....i need to try it now :)
